Jon-Michael is a highly unique filmmaker. Drawing from his love of art, his unusual and sometimes intense experiences in life and his passion for using his powers of storytelling for the forces of good rather than evil, Jon-Michael is out to make films that make a difference.
Educated, experienced, and passionate
Before even completing his degree in Creative Industries Jon-Michael was working on his first television series, Letterbox. His degree not only armed him with the general filmmaking skills, but skills in motion graphics, graphic design and basic web design. Jon-Michael then went on to freelancing successfully in the QLD film and TV industry for a few years working on TV series, directing TVC’s and music videos and being one of the senior camera operators at Bluesfest, which had him be on stage with the likes of Crowded House, Ben Harper, Grace Jones, Michael Franti and John Butler. He also worked heavily with the Australian Koala Foundation to help expand the conversation of koala conservation internationally, something Jon-Michael is passionate about having worked as a Koala handler for a few years. Jon-Michael then moved to Sydney to do a Graduate Certificate in Directing at the Australian Film Television and Radio School (AFTRS).
Jon-Michael has worked on a range of music videos, short films, corporate, charity and multiple TV series, including recently as a segment director, camera operator, motionographer and editor on SAVEPOINT which aired on saturday nights on OneHD.
Jon-Michael possess a wide technical skill base including directing, camera operating, writing, editing, motion graphics, sound design and basic visual effects. However his main focus lies behind the lens as a Director.
As a director Jon-Michael draws from his life experience and education to create engaging and interesting projects. After being exposed to both the dark side and the light side of the human psyche at a young age, Jon-Michael forged a fascination with how people function which led him to his passion for ontogology. Jon-Michael pursued his passion for ontology and become a coach on a leadership program. Now he combines his two passions of making a difference, and directing entertaining media.
Jon-Michael is out to make a real difference through media. His aim is to write and direct feature films that present important ideas through engaging and enjoyable stories, that help influence the world. To layer films with subtext in the way Christopher Nolan layers ideas into entertaining stories. In the way Aristotle inspired through story and made an impact on the world. And in the way that Shakespeare created his plays for the “common” audience and layered them with incredible and timeless ideas that help to shape the way we think and deal with who we are.
